“Tell me who you spend your time with and I’ll tell you who you are.” This well-known saying sounds a bit cliché, but it does reflect something that is actually invested in our minds. Everything we do and say can be interpreted as an indication of how things are inside us. Everything is an expression of personality. Our clothes, our car, our home furnishings. We take a closer look at what the latter has to say. What signs does a person’s home send out? What can we learn about our own psyche?
Of course, we have to bear in mind that in many households there is not just one person who has chosen all the furnishings. Instead, many things are the result of compromise. In that case, conclusions can be drawn about who dominates in the house or whether the couple has certain characteristics in common.
What do the colours show?
White is the standard in so many homes. It is a compromise colour that no one minds or a sign of lack of imagination. However, if certain shades dominate, then that already shows a measure of character. Is it flashy, gaudy colours? Or is it a conservative and reserved basic character?
Interior design & furniture
Good designer furniture is easy to recognise. For example, if you compare MCA Furniture or similar brands with discounter furniture, you will immediately see the difference. At this point, for example, it becomes apparent who has a great value on representation and prestige. There is also inexpensive furniture to make your home beautiful. You just have to put it together in the right way. But some people don’t care. They look for the perfect furniture and attach great importance to quality and extravagant looks.
Decoration and assembly
There are flats where all the cupboards are full of decorative items and there are some where everything is furnished in a minimalist way. This type of set-up entails a rat’s tail of questions. For example, does anyone collect worthless figurines? Or objects that could also be suitable as investments? It should also be noted that cleaning such a flat takes much more time than with minimalist furnishings. So you can recognise those who tend towards efficiency and clarity.
Cleanliness
Cleanliness is an important basic need. If you keep your flat clean, it shows that someone has his or her life under control. However, if it is too clean and everything is pedantically tidy, then it is more a sign that someone there is either a bit obsessive. Or one is trying to compensate for the chaos in life with a substitute action.
Disorder and dirt, in turn, are also reflected in the way one works and lives. If you don’t value order and at least a little perfection at home, you probably won’t want to take care of every little detail at work either.
