Becoming an exterminator – a profession with a future?

In the western industrialised countries, labour markets are changing. More and more jobs are being created for highly qualified people, while jobs in production are being cut back more and more. It is difficult to gain a foothold without solid training or a degree. But there are professions for which this rule probably does not apply. They are so elementary that they are always needed and the possibility of rationalising them away is almost non-existent. We are talking about the exterminator, who earns his money with pest control. In our opinion, a job that will always be in demand.

Pest control – it will always exist

Since the dawn of mankind, societies have had to deal with pests. There have always been rats, which destroyed parts of the grain harvest in the storeroom. In the 14th century they spread the plague. Once Egypt was overrun by a plague of locusts. Anyone who has been to a hotel in Spain knows that cockroaches are part of the holiday. In New York, it is standard for the city’s residents to be plagued by bedbugs again and again – with no prospect of an end. We have such problems here, too. The expert for pest control in Frankfurt reports that after every major trade fair, hotels are ringing up a storm because their beds have been infested with introduced vermin by guests.

To put it briefly: pests have always existed and will continue to exist in the future. This work cannot be done by a machine or a robot. So society will always need people to take care of such problems. For this reason, the outlook for an exterminator with a good reputation professionally is quite excellent.

Pest control – what is the professional perspective?

One can definitely say that it is a market in which a lot of money can be earned. If you are starting up your own business, you will of course need time to build up the networks. But there is enough potential. The first reason that speaks for it is the fact that most western industrialised countries are suffering from demographic change. There is a lack of young people and skilled workers everywhere. Working in pest control is not exactly considered attractive. Therefore, the industry suffers even more. In other words, the competition is currently wiping itself out.

At the same time, the need is always there. Globalisation drives visitors from all over the world around the world. Thus, hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, pubs or even the stationary trade are regular customers. Their potential will never be exhausted. And commercial customers almost don’t care about prices. They need fast, reliable solutions.

Important customers are also property management companies. If there is a problem with vermin in a block of flats, they have a standard provider they call. They are not interested in a few euros more in the price.

In summary, it can be said that working as an exterminator is an ideal way to build a secure future. The job offers an ideal opportunity to establish a flourishing business as a self-employed entrepreneur.
